How to Spot a Gas Leak
We all know the dangers of leaking gas. It’s a scary notion to live in a house where pipes are leaking gas. Are we safe? How do we check it?
The simplest solution is to take an empty spray bottle and mix a little dish soap with water to createa bubble solution. Simply mix about a teaspoon of dish soap with a few cups of water in a spray bottle to achieve the proper consistency. Go to your gas meter and follow the piping back to the heating system and water heater. Spray the bubble solution on all the pipe connections and look for bubbles. If it actively bubbles there is a gas leak. Call your gas company immediately and they should arrive within 1 hour.
Warning! The gas company may cut off your gas until the problem is resolved. If it’s cold outside consider calling your plumber first.
